Tamiki Wakaki(若木 民喜 Wakaki Tamiki, May 9, 1972 -), is a Japanese mangaka, best known for his manga series, The World God Only Knows. He is born in Ikeda City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. He went to Gofuku Nursery School, Ikeda Shibuya Middle School, Osaka Prefectural Kitano High School, and graduated from Kyoto University.

Early Life

Tamiki Wakaki was born in Ikeda City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. He went to Gofuku Nursery School, Ikeda Shibuya Middle School, Osaka Prefectural Kitano High School, and graduated from Kyoto University.

He submitted his first one-shot manga when he was 21, receiving the 'Shogakukan Comics Award' grand prize. He was acclaimed to be 'Rising figure whose future is anticipated'.

After receiving bad comments from the editors of his one-shots, he was shocked and left the industry. A year later, he returned to start again, he started as an assistant for manga artist Yuuji Takemura.

Wakaki continued to fail to obtain a serialization even though he gained more experience. He eventually became a NEET and moved back to his Osaka hometown. Six years after winning his first prize, Wakaki returned to Tokyo at the age of 27. He submitted another new shot in January 2000,' First Touch,' but again he failed to be serialized.

After ' First Touch, ' Wakaki continued to submit several one-shots, all of which failed to get serialized. Wakaki was able to serialize a series called Holy Crystal Albatross in 2006, 13 years after his hell days began, now at the age of 34. His suffering didn't end there, though.

The content itself was based on one of his old one-shots, the Albatross Information Thief Group, which he presented in 2004. For about a year, the series was serialized, but ended up being canceled by the staff as the editors said it was an accidental serialization. What is more saddening is that he has never been able to complete the series properly.

For example, the story was about collecting five crystals, but ended with only collecting two and suddenly an axed-end. Wakaki Tamiki posted a blog post explaining all the storyline plot+foreshadows+questions due to his sudden cancelation [1]... He said 'Now my bank balance fell below 10,000 yen. If I don't get any sort of cash by next week, I can't pay any public utility charges, thus I'm going back to the stone-age.' Ironically enough, he says he left three choices; 1. Lowering quality 2. debt 3. Canceling preorder of NINJAGAIDEN2. His choice was number 2... He ended his blog with 'it's a world of majors which I longed and longed for, but why is it so painful...'. [2] His life changed with the one-shot Koishite!? Kami-sama!!

The response of this one shot was not the best. It was groundbreaking series for them in Internet+ otaku communities, but they thought it was a complete garbage for everyone else. Because there was too much spare space in the Shonen Sunday magazine, it just went through serialization as the series we now know about: The World God Only Knows.

At first, editing department never liked it with the actual series. Nevertheless, it was slowly noticed by general readers, not just eroge / galge otakus, who were already viewing it as a' Godly Manga.' At the end of the day, Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai has finished its serialization with 26 volumes, it even received three seasons of anime, and five OVA's. He escaped from NEET's endless stream, becoming one of Shonen Sunday's most influential mangaka.
