Ginga Legend Weed (Ginga Densetsu Weed), is an anime and manga series created by Yoshihiro Takahashi. It is the sequel to his previous work, Ginga Nagareboshi Gin (also known as Silver Fang). Much like its prequel, Ginga Legend Weed is a series about dogs who undergo several dangerous plots with tragic times. The main character is the Akita Inu/Kishu crossbreed named Weed who is Gin's son. In the first plot, Weed is completely unknown of his father until a rumor of a monster attacking Futago Pass reaches to him. With some newfound friends, he begins his journey not only to defeat the monster but to find his father.
The manga was first published around 1999 or 2000 by Nichibun Comics, and unlike the prequel this series seems to show no signs of ending, having already reaching 50 volumes in the first edition. The currently plot is known as the "Hokkaido Plot", more information can be read in it's appropriate section. Already Nichibun Comics have already been publishing the second edition since November 2006, though publishing the second volume seems to have came to temporary halt. This edition has about 14 volumes which are still covering the "Hougen Plot".
ComicsOne were publishing the first three volumes of Ginga Legend Weed in English, though have stopped due to bad profits and the company have since been bankrupt since 2003. Many have argued the bad profits were probably because the prequel should have been published first (ComicsOne even mentioned the manga prequel in a summary). Others will also argue that it could have been the name. (Weed sometimes reminded people of the drug, when really that was not what the name meant) Either way, ComicsOne could sell the rights to another company but haven't done so. Fans of this series have attempted to find companies to continue to translate Ginga Legend Weed or the prequel.
In 2005, the Ginga Densetsu Weed anime was produced by StudioDEEN. Episodes one to six were first broadcasted on the "pay per view" SkyPerfect channel. Later all of the episodes were broadcasted on Animax from November 2005 to April 2006. Like the prequel, the Ginga Densetsu Weed anime has been broadcasted and released in Sweden and Finland around in 2007. There has been many rumors of this anime coming to America, but all of them were proven false information.
