PLOT**(^-^*)/ｺﾝﾁｬ!

When a high school student Tohru Honda's mother died in a car accident (sadly), Tohru begins living in a tent (outside the sohmas' residents) and supporting herself. That is, until she finds a home in the least likely of places, inhabited by her classmate Yuki Sohma one of the most popular and cutest boys in her school and his cousins Shigure and Kyo. The Sohmas however, live with a very unfortunate curse. the Thirteen members of the family are possessed by spirits of the Chinese zodiac( find out who's who down below in characters) and turn into their zodiac animal when hugged by the opposite gender or when under stress . When Tohru discovers the Sohmas' secret, she promises not to tell and is allowed to keep living with them. The Sohma's curse, however, is deeper and darker than Tohru realized, but her presence soon becomes a large, positive influence on those possessed by the zodiac. She sets out to break the curse, and on the way, meets and discovers each of the Sohma's vengeful zodiac spirits. Each has a different personality, thats what gives them the likeliness of the animals in the Chinese Zodiac. Tohru's existence changes the Sohma family's lives forever like never before...

Fruits Basket has been made into an anime in Japan and America, with 26 episodes. It is also a manga in both countries, much longer and more detailed then the anime. The manga is complete at 23 books. There is also a fan book and a sticker book.

It's funny, generally free of stereotypes and even has a good plot. Highly recommended, though you can subtract one star (just one!) if you don't like stories that seem happy (go watch Evangelion, then). — Enoch Lau

Fruits Basket was a very entertaining and satisfying manga series to read (if not rather dense, in the sense that it typically took me a full hour to read one volume, which is unusually long for me). It is somewhat long at 23 volumes, but if you’re not intimidated by the length, and you aren’t put off by a shojo series, then I would definitely recommend giving Fruits Basket a try. -manga reveiw by Josh

She pleads to stay offering to pay a rental fee for living on their property and catches a fever. Her tent is then buried in a landslide. Shigure and Yuki felt sorry for her knowing she'll get worst without any care, as they are desperate to end take-out eating habits and poor living conditions. So they offer her a spare room in exchange for housework and cooking.
-Later on, she meets another member of the Sohma family, [[Kyo Sohma]] after he crashes through the roof to challenge Yuki to a battle. She accidentally bumps into him in a hug-like way, causing him to turn into a cat. Tohru understands the cat-spirit's hatred of the rat through Kyo's rivalry with Yuki. This discovery leads her to discover the whole Sohma family's secret: thirteen members of the family are possessed by the twelve animal spirits of the Chinese Zodiac ("Jyūnishi" in Japanese) and the spirit of the cat, who was left out of the Zodiac. They are transformed into their animal forms when hugged by the opposite gender or when they feel weak or stressed. Tohru shows her loyalty through keeping secrets so the head of the Sohma family decides that she can keep her memory, unlike others who had found out and had their memories erased.
